What Happens to Links, Videos, and Charts When Translating Google Slides?
Hyperlinks: Preserved
Hyperlinks attached to text are fully preserved. Slide Buddy translates the visible link text but keeps the URL intact. If you have a button that says "Learn More" linking to your website, it becomes "Más Información" (in Spanish) — still linking to the same URL.
This applies to all types of links: URLs, email links, and slide-to-slide links within the same deck.
Embedded Videos: Untouched
Embedded YouTube videos and Google Drive videos are left completely untouched. Slide Buddy doesn't interact with video elements at all — they stay exactly where they are with the same playback settings.
If you need translated captions for a video, you'd handle that on YouTube (auto-captions or manual subtitle tracks) rather than in Google Slides.
Charts: Not Directly Translated
Embedded Google Sheets charts render as images inside Google Slides. Slide Buddy cannot modify the chart labels, axis titles, or legend text — those are controlled by the source spreadsheet.
To translate chart text:
- Open the linked Google Sheet
- Translate the column headers, row labels, and chart title in the sheet
- Back in Google Slides, right-click the chart → Update
- The chart refreshes with the translated labels
For unlinked (pasted) charts, you'd need to delete and re-insert a translated version from the sheet.
Other Non-Text Elements
- Images: Untouched. Text inside images cannot be translated. See full image limitations.
- Audio clips: Untouched.
- Animations and transitions: Fully preserved. Slide Buddy only modifies text content, not slide structure or animations.
- Slide numbers: These are auto-generated by Google Slides and are not translated (they're numbers, not text in the traditional sense).
- Master slide / layout text: Slide Buddy translates text on the visible slides. Text in the master/layout template is not currently translated — you'd need to edit the Slide Master manually.
